Among the Mongols: A Narrative of Personal Experience and Adventure During the Years 1860-1864 is a remarkable account of the author's extraordinary journey through the vast Mongolian steppe, offering a unique glimpse into the heart of the Mongol Empire and the lives of its nomadic people.

The author, James Gilmour, was a Scottish missionary who spent four years living among the Mongols in the Gobi Desert region. During his time there, he traveled extensively, learned the Mongolian language, and gained an intimate understanding of the Mongol culture.

Among the Mongols is a fascinating blend of travel writing, adventure, and cultural anthropology. Gilmour provides vivid descriptions of the Mongolian landscape, people, and customs, as well as his own personal experiences and reflections.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part, "A Journey to the Mongols," recounts Gilmour's journey from China to Mongolia and his first impressions of the country. The second part, "Life Among the Mongols," provides a detailed account of Gilmour's experiences living among the Mongols, including his interactions with the people, his observations of their daily life, and his insights into their beliefs and values.

Gilmour's writing is engaging and informative, and he provides a wealth of information about the Mongols and their way of life. He also offers valuable insights into the history and culture of Mongolia, including the legacy of Genghis Khan and the role of Buddhism in Mongol society.

Among the Mongols is a valuable resource for anyone interested in Mongolian history, culture, or travel. It is also a fascinating read for anyone who enjoys adventure stories or memoirs of personal experience.
