I had the immense privilege of experiencing this dream firsthand when I joined American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in 2005. ABT, one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world, was fortunate to have Baryshnikov as its artistic director from 1980 to 1989 and from 2005 to 2008.

From the moment I stepped into the rehearsal studio under Baryshnikov's watchful eye, I felt an immediate sense of awe and inspiration. His intensity and attention to detail were unparalleled. He demanded excellence, but he also provided invaluable guidance and encouragement.

One of the most memorable performances of my career was dancing the lead role of Albrecht in Giselle with Baryshnikov conducting the orchestra. It was an electrifying experience to have such a legendary artist leading the musical accompaniment. Baryshnikov's interpretation of the score infused the ballet with an emotional depth and nuance that I had never experienced before.

Another highlight was performing the role of Solor in La Bayadère. Baryshnikov had a deep understanding of the Indian classical dance traditions that inspired the ballet. He insisted that we approach the choreography with respect and authenticity, while also infusing it with our own artistic sensibilities.

It was through these experiences and countless others that I gained an invaluable education from Baryshnikov. He taught me the importance of technical precision, artistic expression, and the unwavering pursuit of perfection. He also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the rich history and traditions of ballet.
