  • Approx. 1500 yards worsted weight yarn in three colors (one main color, one contrast color, and one accent color)
  • Crochet hook size H (5 mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

4" x 4" square = 16 sts x 10 rows in half double crochet

Instructions

Body

  1. With main color, chain 150.
  2. Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (149 hdc)
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in each hdc across. Turn. (149 hdc)
  4. Rows 3-45: Repeat row 2.

Blocking

Once the body is complete, block it to even out the stitches and help the cardigan keep its shape. To block the cardigan, lay it flat on a towel and pin it out to the desired size and shape. Allow it to dry completely before continuing.

Assembly

  1. With right sides together, sew the shoulder seams together.
  2. Turn the cardigan right side out.
  3. With the contrast color, join yarn to the center of the bottom edge of the cardigan. Hdc around the bottom edge, working 2 hdc in each corner. Join with a sl st to the first hdc.
  4. Ch 1, turn. Hdc around the bottom edge again, working 2 hdc in each hdc. Join with a sl st to the first hdc.
  5. Ch 1, turn. With the accent color, hdc around the bottom edge one more time, working 2 hdc in each hdc. Join with a sl st to the first hdc.
  6. Fasten off and weave in loose ends.

Sleeves (Optional)

  1. With main color, chain 60.
  2. Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (59 hdc)
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in each hdc across. Turn. (59 hdc)
  4. Rows 3-20: Repeat row 2.
  5. Fasten off and weave in loose ends.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 to make the second sleeve.

Attaching Sleeves (Optional)

  1. With right sides together, pin the sleeves to the armholes of the cardigan.
  2. Sew the sleeves to the cardigan using a mattress stitch.
