Materials

  • Canvas or painting paper
  • Acrylic paint in white and blue
  • Paintbrushes (a variety of sizes)
  • Water cup
  • Pencil (optional)

Step 1: Sketch the Cabin

  • If you want, use a pencil to lightly sketch the outline of the cabin on your canvas. This will help you to get the proportions of the cabin correct.
  • Otherwise, you can simply start painting the cabin freehand.

Step 2: Paint the Cabin

  • Using white acrylic paint, begin painting the cabin.
  • Start with the roof and paint it in a downward motion.
  • Then, paint the walls of the cabin, leaving a small space between the roof and the walls.
  • Add details such as windows and a door.

Step 3: Paint the Snow

  • Using blue acrylic paint, begin painting the snow around the cabin.
  • Start with a light blue and gradually add more white to create a sense of depth.
  • Use a variety of brushstrokes to create different textures in the snow.
  • You can also add highlights and shadows to the snow to give it more dimension.

Step 4: Add Trees

  • Using a variety of green and brown acrylic paints, paint trees around the cabin.
  • Start with the trunks of the trees and then add branches and foliage.
  • Use different brushstrokes and colors to create different types of trees.

Step 5: Add Details

  • Once you have painted the basic scene, you can add details to make it more realistic.
  • For example, you could add smoke coming from the chimney of the cabin.
  • Or, you could add footprints in the snow leading to the cabin.
  • You could also add animals such as deer or birds to the scene.

Tips

  • If you want to create a more realistic snow scene, use a variety of blue paints to create different shades of snow.
  • To create a more atmospheric painting, add a gradient to the sky. Start with a light blue at the horizon and gradually add more white towards the top of the canvas.
  • If you want to add more texture to the snow, use a sponge or a cloth to dab paint on the canvas.
  • To create a more dramatic painting, add some black or gray acrylic paint to the snow to create shadows.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors and techniques. There is no right or wrong way to paint a winter snow cabin scene.

Painting a winter snow cabin scene is a fun and easy way to bring the beauty of winter indoors. This step-by-step guide will help you to create a stunning painting in just 15 minutes using only two colors.
